Trying to find accommodation in the concrete jungle of São Paulo can be confusing and frustrating. The city offers a wide range of accommodation in varying price ranges. From budget dorm room to luxury hotel, there is something for you. It can seem quite daunting. The best way to choose accommodation in São Paulo is to pick a location first. If you are in Sao Paulo for work, consider staying near your workplace. Traffic in São Paulo can be quite dreadful. A short commute is very welcome.
Best Neighbourhoods in São Paulo
Avenida Paulista
The leafy and upscale area around Avenida Paulista/Jardins is in my opinion the best place to stay in São Paulo. It is quite centrally located, close to the old central district; it is close to the metro and luxury shopping street Oscar Freire. Many sights, galleries, restaurants and shops are within easy reach.
Bela Vista
On the other side of Avenida Paulista lies Bela Vista. This area is a good choice if slightly more budget conscious as it is a little cheaper than the more upscale Jardins area on the other side of Avenida Paulista. Bela Vista is quite residential with many hospitals in the vicinity. It has easy access to the metro stops at Avenida Paulista and the bars and restaurants in the area.
Vila Madalena
Vila Madalena is a trendy neighbourhood to the west of the city’s centre with many bars, restaurants and shops at your doorstep. This low-rise leafy neighbourhood is known for its bohemian vibe and bustling nightlife. With the metro close by, it is a great base to explore São Paulo. Vila Madalena is the trendier, younger neighbourhood to the more established Pinheiros neighbourhood. There are a number of hostels and Airbnb options in the area.
